Sunday, 15 December 2019

Happy 15th of December, I cannot believe how quickly this time of year has come around, I say this every year but really, where has 2019 gone?! By now, one or two of you may have your Christmas tree up, the stockings hung and the wreath placed beautifully on your front door.

A Christmas tradition of the Dodsworth's is to get together around the 1st or 2nd weekend of December, warm some mulled wine and get out all of the beautiful decorations my mother has collated over the years and so once again decorate the Dodsworth's Tree. So tradition wasn't broken, that's exactly what we did.

However, this year a new tradition was made. As this year, for the first time, I don't live at home. I'm sure many of you can relate? trying to make a rented property a home can feel a little bit harder.

No living room? No problem! Go and get yourself a tree that can fit in your room, size doesn't matter along as it's green and has a bauble you're ok! I bought mine from Argos  last year, at a very reasonable price of £20 ( now £12).

Next, select the colour scheme for your tree, the older I get the more traditional approach I tend to take but for now, this year I stuck with the decorations I had last year. Pastel pinks, pastel sage green and silvers. A mixture of baubles, animals, textures and feather bowers seem to have worked quite nicely. The range have a beautiful selection of decorations which is where I purchased my lights for the tree at just £15.99 now £9.99! Why not prepare for next year now?

I don't do tinsel, I just can't seem to find one I like, so to replace that feature I decided to go for some feather bowers at just £1 a bower, I purchased three to bulk out my little snowy delight. Tip to help you fill any sparse gaps, tinsel, feathers or beads. I also added in what my sisters called over the top, i hope you're both reading this because i have no idea what you would call them but the extra AF swirly glitter stems?

Each decoration was hand selected, a mixture I will try my best to link them all below!

The star on top of my tree was from Baytree garden centre, my angel was purchased from Dobbies in Tescos. December for me is a time of celebration and a month of reflection of what this year has bought me and what lies in the year ahead. So far, this year I've moved out, got a new job in a new city, reignited friendships, said good-bye to some. Very little regret, a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the seasonal celebrations back in Lincolnshire! I would love to hear about some of your Christmas traditions, starting with the tree. Have a wonderful week!
